The 22 December, one day after the eruption of the Anak Krakatoa Vulcan at 21.30 local a deadly tsunami has hit the Indonesian’s coast killing more than 200 people and injuring more than 700 people.
The zone that was hit is one of the zone where there aren’t tide-gauges, instruments which help to predict a tsunami and estimate the high of the wave, this was one of the reasons because no one knew about it and why so many people died.
Experts think that a nearby volcanic eruption triggered an underwater landslide, which pushed the wall of water towards the shore. The wave was 6 meters high and on its way to hit the town it ran over a famous Indonesian band, the Seventeen, who was having a concert on the beach killing some members of the band and other people.
This wasn’t the first eruption of the volcano, indeed the eruption of Krakatoa in the 1883 killed more than 36,000 people and it also caused a terrible tsunami of 46 metres high.
This was one of the major tsunami that Indonesia has dealt with in a couple of months in fact at the end of September a huge earthquake cause a tsunami that hit the city of Palu killing over 2,000 people.
Indonesia has been hit for several years by tsunami and earthquakes, this happens because the country is standing right over the Ring of Fire, an arc of volcanoes and fault lines in the basin of the Pacific Ocean. The country is also really poor so they can afford building that are strong enough to overcome a tsunami, like japan.
All the countries are hoping for the best and to find more people alive, all the prayers go to all the families of the victims and hopefully the country will be able to keep going after this terrible event.
Tsunami in Indonesia: cosa successe e perché morirono centinaia di persone
Il 22 dicembre, un giorno dopo l’eruzione del vulcano Anak Krakatoa alle 21.30 locali, uno tsunami mortale ha colpito la costa indonesiana uccidendo più di 200 persone e ferendo più di 700 persone.
La zona colpita è una delle zone in cui non sono presenti mareografi, strumenti che aiutano a prevedere uno tsunami e a stimare l’altezza dell’onda, questo è stato uno dei motivi poichè nessuno è stato messo al corrente e perché così tante persone sono morte.
Gli esperti pensano che una vicina eruzione vulcanica abbia innescato una frana sottomarina, che ha spinto il muro d’acqua verso la riva. L’onda era alta 6 metri e sulla sua strada per colpire la città ha investito un famoso gruppo indonesiano, i Diciassettenne, che stava facendo un concerto sulla spiaggia uccidendo alcuni membri della band e altre persone.
Questa non è stata la prima eruzione del vulcano, infatti l’eruzione del Krakatoa nel 1883 uccise più di 36.000 persone e provocò anche un terribile tsunami di 46 metri di altezza.
Questo è stato uno dei maggiori tsunami che l’Indonesia ha affrontato in un paio di mesi, infatti alla fine di settembre un altro terremoto aveva causato uno tsunami alto 20 metri che aveva colpito la città di Palu uccidendo oltre 2.000 persone.
L’Indonesia viene colpita da diversi anni da tsunami e terremoti, questo perché il paese si trova proprio sopra l’Anello di Fuoco, un arco di vulcani e linee di faglie nel bacino dell’Oceano Pacifico. Il paese è anche molto povero, per questo motivo non possono permettersi edifici abbastanza forti da superare uno tsunami, come il Giappone.
Tutti i paesi sperano per il meglio e di trovare più persone vive, tutte le preghiere vanno a tutte le famiglie delle vittime e si spera che il paese possa continuare ad andare avanti dopo questo terribile evento.
