ART THERAPY, WHAT IT IS ABOUT AND WHAT ARE ITS BENEFITS

The art therapy, in italian “arte terapia”, is a cure or simply a treatment which generally includes all forms of art, that is what leads people to express themselves naturally. It is used as a simple relaxing but also in the prevention and rehabilitation of different psychological and social disorders. The communication of own emotions can take place through painting, sculpture, dance, music or any other artistic expression.

Born in the ’40s/’50s in America and Great Britain, art therapy soon reached many other parts of the world, and today it’s experiencing its maximum development.

For quite some time, even in Italy, there are associations that are dedicated to the promotion of this therapy, proposing different courses in which you can participate in presence or online.

The most known and diffused forms, mainly in function anti stress, are the drawing and the colouring, and are utilized by the smallest as well as by the adults. The technique consists in the use of books, more or less complex, to color. These are books that contain drawings perfectly created, with geometric textures, natural subjects or even human faces of famous people.

According to various studies it is indeed shown that this activity, in addition to developing both the brain hemispheres (rational and emotional), leads the person to relax and distract from everyday thoughts and concerns.

There is a branch of art therapy that is instead practiced in the actual medical field on adults and children, mainly in the fields of psychology and sociology, because through art the patient can be able to express himself and his problems.

The various researches carried out over the years have led to the conclusion that it is also an effective remedy for sensitive diseases such as depression, and that even in fields unrelated to psychology, relaxing the mind through these practices can often be useful for relieving or healing.
