NICK KAMEN, MODEL TURNED INTO POPSTAR BY MADONNA

Nick Kamen, a successful singer and model, died on May 5, 2021 at the age of 59, because of a cancer he had been suffering from for a long time.

Boy George, his great friend, was the first to announce, through an Instagram post, the death of Nick, composer of the song “Tell Me “ released in 1988.

Nick Kamen – born in Essex, (UK) ,real name Ivor Neville Kamen- rose to fame as a model at the age of 18. He was chosen for a very famous Levi’s commercial, which showed him entering a laundry, taking off his clothes and stripping down to his boxer shirts while several women were looking this commercial turned him into a worldwide sex symbol and captured Madonna’s attention,then a bad girl, who later asked him to record a song for her third album. The song –“Each Time Your Break My Heart ” – was released in 1986. This song quickly reached the top of the European charts: it held first place in Spain, England, Germany, France and even in Italy. Between 1987 and 1992 he released four other records, in association with Madonna.

Patrick Leonard, renowned music producer, worked with Kamen and produced his second album “Us”. Madonna appeared as a backing vocalist on the song “Tell me”, although she didn’t contribute to the songwriting or production. Thanks to the help of Madonna The song “I promised myself “, it’s biggest international hit, reached the first place in the charts of 8 countries. His last album dates back to 1992 (“Whatever Whenever”). He then retired from the industry to devote himself to his private life, at least until May 5, when the news of his death was announced by Boy George.

I wrote this short article because I was touched by the news of the death of this extraordinary man whom I’ve never heard of before. I did a quick research and I discovered Kamen’s amazing talent. I thought he truly deserves to be remembered, moreover, I wanted to emphasize his important career.
