EL PIBE DE ORO: THE GOD OF FOOTBALL
In the southern suburbs of the city Lanùs, on October 30, 1960 was born “the golden boy”, Diego Armando Maradona.
A life full of successes and excesses that of the humble Argentine boy who brought his country on the roof of the world and gave the Neapolitans unimaginable emotions.
From an early age he began to be noticed and soon became a talent of Argentinos Junior, then he arrived at Barcelona and after a serious injury he set foot at the San Paolo: it was love at first sight.
He was only 24 years old when he became a pagan deity for the whole Neapolitan world.
Diego gives Naples a super Italian cup, two championships and a UEFA cup, thus reciprocating the huge love of its supporters.
His face, carved and portrayed in every corner and on all the walls of the city, becomes the San Gennaro of the football temple.
His football career ended in 1994 when he tested positive for doping during the World Cup in the United States. From this moment on, his life changed. The fame, the riches stripped the god of soccer making him the man of a thousand fragilities. There followed numerous arrests for possession of drugs and “cocaine crisis”: El pibe de oro was no longer the same.
In recent times he appeared in public not very lucid, out of shape and always accompanied by many people, concerned only to take away as much money as possible and to remove him from his true affections.
He underwent a series of surgical interventions. The last one, very delicate, carried out to remove a hematoma in the brain, on November 25, 2020, will bring him to a fatal cardiac arrest.
The champion dies, in a small and dilapidated house, surrounded by the affection of no one but his fame with part of his wealth, even hidden in railway wagons, now disputed between the numerous family members and the entourage of his countless administrators.

Nella periferia sud della città Lanùs, il 30 ottobre 1960 nasceva “il ragazzo d’oro”, Diego Armando Maradona.
Una vita piena di successi ed eccessi quella dell’umile ragazzo argentino che portò il suo paese sul tetto del mondo e regalò ai napoletani emozioni inimmaginabili.
Fin da piccolo cominciò a farsi notare e divenne presto un talento dell’Argentinos Junior, poi arrivò al Barcellona e dopo un grave infortunio mise piede al San Paolo: fu amore a prima vista.
Ha solo 24 anni quando diventa una divinità pagana per tutto il mondo napoletano.
Diego regala al Napoli una supercoppa italiana, due scudetti e una coppa UEFA, ricambiando così l’enorme amore dei suoi tifosi.
Il suo volto, scolpito e ritratto in ogni angolo e su tutti i muri della città, diventa il San Gennaro del tempio del calcio.
La sua carriera calcistica termina nel 1994 quando risulta positivo al doping durante i Mondiali negli Stati Uniti. Da questo momento la sua vita cambiò. La fama, le ricchezze spogliarono il dio del calcio rendendolo l’uomo dalle mille fragilità. Seguirono numerosi arresti per possesso di droga e “crisi di cocaina”: El pibe de oro non era più lo stesso.
Negli ultimi tempi appariva in pubblico poco lucido, fuori forma e sempre accompagnato da molte persone, preoccupate solo di portargli via più soldi possibili e di allontanarlo dai suoi veri affetti.
Ha subito una serie di interventi chirurgici. L’ultimo, molto delicato, effettuato per rimuovere un ematoma al cervello, il 25 novembre 2020, lo porterà ad un arresto cardiaco fatale.
Il campione muore, in una piccola e fatiscente casa, circondato dall’affetto di nessuno ma dalla sua fama con parte delle sue ricchezze, addirittura nascoste in vagoni ferroviari, ora contese tra i numerosi familiari e l’entourage dei suoi innumerevoli amministratori.
