The use of social network

Di Alessandro Liberati

Today the Net, and in particular the Social Networks, are increasingly monopolizing our lives, from information to political propaganda; in fact, social networks have become to all intents and purposes one of the most accessible and direct tools for sharing and supporting one’s idea for political or purely personal purposes. But is it right to use these means for political dissemination?

First of all, it must be noted that a good percentage of Social users are made up of individuals who are not yet able to have their own idea that is reached following a reasoning and careful research that can define the  subject “informed”; this should be the basis. But how many of these speak without being in the least informed? From a certain point of view it can also be fine, given the average age of some of the users, but the problem comes right here: having such free access to other people’s ideas, without a minimum information on the situation and without having an own opinion, what can it lead to? To get carried away by the crowd, informed or not.

Furthermore, the images, finding us in the social world, prevail over any type of writing and, consequently, reasoning. In fact, the one who is about to read a post with four words without a coherent argument, what will he ever understand?

Not infrequently, it happens that such posts report offensive content against one or more individuals. They may be justified or not, they may be right or not, but in any case it is neither the way nor the place to attack someone in such a way. Respect does not exist on social media, or rather, many consider it superfluous in such contexts. In addition, referring to the previous thesis: people of any level, who have the intent to lead our country, cannot afford such exits, they cannot be unbalanced in this way on social platforms. We wonder why the rate of rudeness has increased with the advent of the Net: but if, the first to have an unbalanced, slanderous and offensive behavior with the intent of attacking an idea other than their own or an unshared action, it is those who have the duty to lead our country and protect their citizens, we should not be surprised. As adults and fulfilling their role, they should be an example, but with such behaviors what can be expected? Just open the comments of any Instagram post to see the misinformation, vulgarity and immaturity that every day attack someone with an opinion different from their own. Fortunately, social networks are not just this, there are also users who, in a calm and respectful way, are ready to rationally support and discuss their opinion, without any kind of vulgarity and above all without attacking.

In conclusion, we can say that Social Networks are not the most suitable place for political dissemination, least of all in the manner described which unfortunately too often reflects reality.
