Il tuo primo singolo è stato rilasciato il 27 agosto. Cosa puoi dirci al riguardo?
Parla di una relazione, che può essere tra due fidanzati ma anche tra due amici, dove uno dei due commette un errore ma se ne accorge troppo tardi, quindi deve cercare di resistere. Però è consapevole che è troppo tardi. Poi è stato molto divertente registrare la canzone e il video, perché è stata la prima volta che ho potuto scegliere liberamente tutto da sola!
In un’intervista hai detto: “Non mi sento una persona dark, ma mi piace la musica dark”. È ancora vero per il tuo stile da solista?
Sì, lo è! Mi considero una persona felice, ma sono sempre stata attratta dalla musica dark, anche se dipende dal mio stato d’animo: quando sono contenta adoro ascoltare musica da vibes estive, ma, quando non mi sento particolarmente bene, opto per la musica dark o malinconica.
La tua voce si adatta molto bene, come suggeriscono le tue cover (per esempio, “Creep“, “Sweet dreams“, “She will be loved” e “Almost is never enough“, che di fatto sono canzoni molto diverse). Qual è il genere che senti più tuo?
Penso che sia un genere dark, elettronico e pop alternativo, proprio come il ritmo dark di cui consiste anche la nuova canzone.
Guardando al mondo della musica (sia nel passato che nel presente), chi sono i tuoi modelli o i cantanti che più ti hanno ispirata?
Beh, l’ispirazione spesso mi proviene più da diverse canzoni piuttosto che da artisti specifici. Comunque, ammiro molto Billie Eilish, anche se la mia musica non è una copia della sua. Ma è sempre bello prendere ispirazione da lei.
Sicuramente vincere The Voice alla tua età (17, ndr). Cos’hai imparato da quell’esperienza?
Sicuramente moltissimo. All’inizio il mio obiettivo era solamente quello di cantare davanti ai giudici e sentire poi le loro considerazioni riguardo alla mia voce, ma alla fine è andata molto bene! Sono andata sempre più avanti nella competizione e ho notato un considerevole miglioramento: durante la competizione avevamo una cosa come 4 prove a settimana e c’era un vocal coach che mi ha trasmesso molti insegnamenti sulle tecniche e sul controllo dell’ansia, cose che erano molto importanti per me.
Quante volte pensi a quell’esperienza?
Abbastanza spesso, perché è stato il momento in cui tutto è iniziato. Si tratta di qualcosa a cui pensi ripetutamente, è stata un’esperienza piacevole e molto divertente da fare, dato che lì trovi persone che vivono nel tuo stesso mondo con cui puoi sentire un legame molto forte.
Ti sentiresti pronta per diventare una giudice di The Voice? Si tratta di qualcosa che ti piacerebbe fare?
Sì, assolutamente! Se mi chiamassero, accetterei sicuramente. Sembra molto divertente!
Parlando del tuo futuro, hai già pensato al tuo primo album o per il momento ti stai concentrando sui tuoi singoli?
Stiamo scrivendo molto, quindi l’idea sarebbe quella di rilasciare un EP o un breve album per l’anno prossimo.
Come ti senti quando pensi alla tua età? Sei molto giovane e hai già tagliato traguardi straordinari…
Senza dubbio è un dato positivo, visto che significa che hai molto tempo per crescere e trovare il tuo stile: prima cominci meglio è, perché hai più tempo per migliorare. E poi credo che da giovane tu sia più senza pensieri, cosa che ho notato in The Voice.
Considerando i gruppi e i cantanti giovani, c’è qualcosa che vorresti “rubare” loro?
Beh, non vorrei rubare niente, ma sto cercando di trovare me stessa e scoprire quale sia il mio stile. Forse mi piacerebbe rubare un po’ di fiducia sul palco.
Come descriveresti la tua presenza sul palco?
Sono una specie di festaiola, anche se non sembra affatto così quando sono sul palco, per cui ci sto lavorando visto che ci sono alcune canzoni che sono più adatte per ballare. Stiamo anche frequentando lezioni di ballo e sulla performance sul palco per imparare come muoverci e come ballare. Probabilmente, credo che finirò nel mezzo, anche perché dipende dal tipo di canzone. Comunque sarà un percorso lungo, ma staremo a vedere…
Per i tuoi fans italiani, sei mai stata qui in Italia?
Ci sono andata, ma solo per un periodo molto breve, per cui non ho avuto l’opportunità di visitarla. Avevo molte prove durante il giorno, ma mi ricorderò per sempre il cibo! Era delizioso. Ho mangiato una pasta al ragù veramente buona. Non ho mai mangiato una pasta migliore di quella! Inoltre il pubblico italiano è stato davvero entusiasta, erano grandi appassionati e hanno cantato quasi ogni canzone! È stato molto bello visitare un paese così contento del nostro concerto. Una sensazione davvero piacevole!
LUKA CRUYSBERGHS : “MY STYLE IS DARK, ALTERNATIVE POP”
Your first single was released on Friday 27th August, what can you tell us about it?
It is about the relationship between two people who can be friends or engaged, and one of them has committed a mistake, but realizes it too late and has to hold on. However, he or she knows actually that it is a little bit too late. It was also very nice to make the song and the video, since it was the first time that I was free to decide all the stuff myself!
In an interview you said: “I don’t feel like a dark person but I just love dark music“. Is it still true for your style as a soloist?
Yes, it is still true! I consider myself as a happy person, but I was always drawn to dark music, even though it depends on my mood: when I’m happy I love listening to summer vibes music, but when I don’t feel that good I prefer dark, melancholic music.
Your voice is very adaptable, as your covers suggest (e.g. “Creep“, “Sweet dreams“, “She will be loved” and “Almost is never enough“, which are very different songs). What style do you feel is more yours?
I think it is dark, electronic, alternative pop, just like the dark type of beats, which is also the kind of style the new single is.
Looking at the world of music (both in the past and in the present), who are your models, or the singers that have inspired you the most?
Well, my inspiration often comes from very different songs rather than particular artists. However, I really appreciate Billie Eilish, even if my music is not a copy of hers. But it is always good to pick up inspiration from her.
Of course winning The Voice at your age is something unbelievable. What did you learn from that experience?
Definitely a lot. At the beginning, my goal was just to sing my songs in front of the judges and then hear their opinions about my voice, but eventually it went really well! I went further and further in the competition and I noticed a lot of progress: we had rehearsals like four days a week during the competition and there was a vocal coach who taught me a lot about the techniques and the stress control, which was very important for me.
How many times do you think about that experience?
Quite often, since it is the point where everything started. It is something you regularly think about, it was a nice adventure and really fun to do, because you find people that live in the same world as you with whom you can have a really strong connection.
Do you feel ready to become a judge of TheVoice? Is it something you would like to do?
Yes, of course! If they called me, I would surely accept. It seems very enjoyable!
Talking about your future, have you already thought about your first album or are you focusing on singles at the moment?
We are writing a lot, so the intention is to release an EP or a small album for next year.
How do you feel with your age? You are very young and you have already achieved amazing goals…
It is surely a positive fact, since it means that you have a long time to grow and to find yourself. The earlier you begin the better it is, as you will have more time to progress. Moreover, I think that when you are young you are more carefree, which is something I noticed in The Voice.
Looking at young bands and singers, is there something you would like to “steal” from them?
Well, I would not “steal” anything, but I am searching myself and trying to figure out what my style is. Maybe, I would like to steal a little bit of confidence on stage.
How would you define your presence on stage?
I am like a party animal, even though it does not seem this way when I am on stage. So, I am working on it, since there are some songs that are more danceable. We also do dancing and staging performance lessons to learn how to move and dance. Probably, I believe that in the end I will end up in the middle, even because it depends on the kind of song. However, it will be a long process, but we will see…
For your Italian fans, have you ever been here in Italy?
I went there, but for a very brief period, so I did not have the opportunity to explore Italy. I had a lot of rehearsals during the day, but I will always remember the food! It was great. I ate a really good pasta al ragù, I have never had a better pasta than that time! Besides, the Italian crowd was very enthusiastic, they were very big fans and they sang along to almost every song! It was very nice to visit a country that was very happy that we were performing there. A very nice feeling!
