Is life really easier for teenagers today compared to the previous generations? I think nowadays teenagers have an easier life than other generations, as the ones of our parents or grandparents had. I asked my grandmother a few questions about her school years and the job opportunities she had, when she was a teenager.
During my grandparents era, teenagers were discouraged from going to school as their parents were not aware of the importance of education. Their priority was to earn money. During the years the situation has changed: school has become compulsory to the age of sixteen, the advanced technology has improved our way of studying and it has made it easier and quicker to study. From my grandmother’s experience, years back teachers were stricter than today, in fact they used to hit the kid’s wrist with a stick. Today the mentality has changed, parents have a more open mind and know the importance of education for our future, in fact we often see teenagers that go study abroad.
Studying abroad means not only to learn a new culture but also a new language and this will give you more opportunities to find a job in the future. Back in the past there weren’t as many jobs as there are today because technology wasn’t as developed as it is now. Most people from the old generations used to do hard and heavy work like working in the mines, being a farmer, being a craftsman, today, however, these jobs have been completely abandoned and replaced by innovative ones. I feel lucky that things are different now. Many things have changed for the better and thanks to these changes the opportunities for young people have increased.
La vita degli adolescenti è davvero più facile oggi rispetto a quella delle generazioni precedenti? Penso che oggigiorno gli adolescenti abbiano una vita più facile rispetto alle altre generazioni, come quella dei nostri genitori o dei nostri nonni. Ho fatto a mia nonna alcune domande sui suoi anni scolastici e sulle opportunità di lavoro che aveva, quando era un’adolescente.
Durante l’era dei miei nonni, gli adolescenti erano scoraggiati dall’andare a scuola perché i loro genitori non erano consapevoli dell’importanza dell’istruzione. La loro priorità era guadagnare soldi. Nel corso degli anni la situazione è cambiata: la scuola è diventata obbligatoria fino ai sedici anni, la tecnologia avanzata ha migliorato il nostro modo di studiare e lo ha reso più facile e veloce. Dall’esperienza di mia nonna, anni fa gli insegnanti erano più severi di oggi, infatti colpivano il polso del bambino con un bastone. Oggi la mentalità è cambiata, i genitori hanno una mente più aperta e conoscono l’importanza dell’educazione per il nostro futuro, infatti vediamo spesso adolescenti che vanno a studiare all’estero. Studiare all’estero significa non solo imparare una nuova cultura ma anche una nuova lingua e questo ti darà maggiori opportunità di trovare un lavoro in futuro. In passato non c’erano tanti posti di lavoro come ce ne sono oggi perché la tecnologia non era così sviluppata come lo è ora. La maggior parte delle persone delle vecchie generazioni era solita fare lavori duri e pesanti come lavorare nelle miniere, fare il contadino, essere un artigiano, oggi, invece, questi lavori sono stati completamente abbandonati e sostituiti da quelli innovativi.
Mi sento fortunato che le cose siano diverse ora. Molte cose sono cambiate in meglio e grazie a questi cambiamenti sono aumentate le opportunità per i giovani.
