Starlink is a satellite constellation of SpaceX, an American private aerospace manufacturer for low- latency broadband global satellite internet access. SpaceX is also a company that is committed to reducing the costs of accessing space and allowing the colonization of Mars. On May 24, 2019, the first 60 satellites were successfully brought into orbit, while in January 2021 there are 1081 operative satellites of the constellation. SpaceX is currently capable of bringing 60 satellites into orbit for each launch and aims to deploy an additional 1,500 satellites by the end of 2021 and the beginning of 2022. SpaceX activated a private service in beta in the United States in August 2020 and launched a public service, also in beta, in October 2020. SpaceX operations engineer Siva Bharadvaj revealed that the company has surpassed half a million customers. The service in beta phase is also
available in Italy. Subscribers to the beta phase will receive a kit including antenna, router, power supplies and cables at home but it is necessary to pay a deposit of 99 Euros to secure a slot in the customer list. Another 499 Euros are needed for the hardware and 60 Euros for shipping, while the monthly fee is 99 Euros. During beta, users can expect to see data speeds vary from 50Mb/s to 150Mb/s and latency from 20ms to 40ms in most locations over the next several months. On the official website of the company it can also be read that there will be brief moments when the connection service will not be available during this phase.
