Nata a Tokyo nel luglio del 1964, Banana Yoshimoto, pseudonimo di Mahoko Yoshimoto, è l’emblema della letteratura contemporanea giapponese.
Tramite “Kitchen”, suo romanzo d’esordio riesce ad entrare, quanto più nelle cucine, nelle librerie degli italiani. Narratrice di momenti, Banana Yoshimoto ci trasporta nella sua terra attraverso i suoi occhi, facendo vivere le vicende dei protagonisti delle sue opere nelle metropoli giapponesi. La tematica ricorrente spesso nei suoi libri è quella della perdita. Che sia di un amico, di un familiare o di uno sconosciuto Yoshimoto riesce a mettere su carta ogni tipo di emozione conseguente a tale perdita. Uno dei libri che racconta l’elaborazione del lutto da due punti di vista differenti, la figlia la quale vive la morte del padre e la madre che vive la morte del marito, è “Moshi moshi”. Tradotto con “pronto” in italiano, racconta una rinascita, fatta inevitabilmente di dolore, ma segnata da piccole felicità sommate insieme.
La Yoshimoto scrive, inoltre, “Il dolce domani“, dedicandolo a tutti i suoi lettori deceduti nella tragedia del terremoto a Fukushima, onorando la loro memoria. Il romanzo affronta temi delicati, come i legami che si spezzano, la perdita e la rinascita, riuscendo a non cadere mai nell’indelicatezza. L’opera ha riscontrato tanti giudizi positivi, soprattutto da chi la tragedia l’aveva toccata con mano.

Through “Kitchen”, her debut novel, manage to get, as much in the kitchens, in the bookshelf of the Italians. Storyteller of moments, Banana Yoshimoto takes us to his country through his eye, making live the events of the character of her books in the Japanese metropolis. The recurring theme in her books is often the loss. Losing a fiend, a family member or a complexly stranger, Banana Yoshimoto can put on paper every type of emotions consequents of losing someone. One of the book that tells the grieving process by two different point of view, the daughter who lives the death of her father and the mother who lives the death of her husband, is “Moshi moshi” . “Pronto”, traslate in Italian, tells a reborn, made inevitably by pain, but however sign of small happiness plus together.
The Yoshimoto write also “il dolce domani” with the theme of the loss, dedicating it at all her reader who died in the Fukushima’s tragedy, honoring their memory. This novel deals sensitive issues, like ties that break, the loss and the reborn, managing never to fall into the indelicacy. She also found many positive reviews, especially by those who touch with their hand the tragedy.
