Does sustainable tourism really exist?

The concept of “sustainable tourism” is quite new and It has been developed simultaneously with  the idea of a world even more “green”. It has as main goal to reduce industrial waste, like  emissions from airplanes or trains during a long travel. Following this trend, people have started  demanding alternative types of tourisms, including ecotourism.

Ecotourism proposes innovative types of travel based on discovering new places, cultures and  traditions closely related to the nature and what it produces. Going to protected areas for  admiring wild plants and animals is an example of an eco-friendly tourism which is nowadays  sponsored by countries like Canada and Australia and it is becoming very popular also in some  European states like Austria and Ireland.

In addition doing sustainable tourism is not possible without “zero-emissions” transports as  bicycles, sailboats and electric cars. It is also eco-friendly travelling by camper, which with the  evolution of technology is powered by sunlight and the only waste product that produces is dirty  water.

To sum up, ecotourism reduces the effects of global warming in order to preserve biodiversity and  ecosystems. It also allows people to focus on different aspects of the nature, by establishing with  it very tight relationship.
