Lizzo, cantante e rapper statunitense, è una delle star più attive nella lotta al body shaming, nel movimento Black Lives Matter e per i diritti della comunità LGBTQIA+.
Sin da piccola ha dovuto affrontare critiche e insulti sulla sua forma fisica ed è solo grazie alla musica che è riuscita a parlare di diversità, di body shaming, di sessualità e di accettazione di sé.
Dai suoi testi traspira la sua forza, quella di accettarsi; la cantante, infatti, ha imparato a convivere con il suo corpo, che lei ama, come tutte le donne, indipendentemente dal peso o dalla forma fisica, dovrebbero fare.
Le sue dichiarazioni e i suoi post sui social suscitano sempre una forte reazione, c’è chi la giudica e chi la supporta. Ha fatto molto discutere, ad esempio, un video su Tik Tok in cui l’artista mostra il suo workout a casa: pioggia di critiche e insulti da parte dei bodyshamers, che la stessa Lizzo zittisce, dichiarando di allenarsi per avere il suo fisico ideale, diverso da quello imposto dai canoni di bellezza della società.
Lizzo mostra sempre il suo corpo con fierezza e senza vergogna, facendo capire a tutte le donne che devono accettarsi, per vivere in pace con loro stesse e con il loro corpo, piuttosto che rincorrere un ideale di bellezza ritenuto un modello solo perché imposto dalla società.
Lizzo dimostra l’amore per il proprio corpo anche sul red carpet, infatti è stata modella per la sfilata FIT, di Future of Fashion di Grace Insogna, indossando un abito plus size.
Lizzo si batte anche per i diritti della comunità nera negli Stati Uniti; dopo la brutale uccisione dell’afroamericano George Floyd, la cantante ha mostrato solidarietà e ammirazione verso tutti coloro che hanno preso una posizione contro il razzismo e la violazione dei diritti della comunità nera. Proprio per combattere il razzismo la rapper statunitense è stata la prima donna nera ‘in carne’ sulla cover di Vogue, nell’ottobre del 2020.
Inoltre, sin dai suoi esordi ha sempre appoggiato la comunità LGBTQIA+. Infatti, nel suo videoclip del 2013 per la canzone Batches and Cookies, Lizzo sventolava le bandiere arcobaleno fuori dal Campidoglio a St. Paul, Minnesota, per festeggiare l’approvazione della legge a favore dei matrimoni gay.
Per il suo impegno sociale, per il suo carisma e le lotte personali, oltre che naturalmente per la sua musica, è stata nominata “Entertainer dell’anno”, nel 2019 dalla rivista Time.

Lizzo, an American singer and rapper, is one of the most active stars on the topics of body shaming, BLM, LGBTQIA+ community.
Since she was young, she has had to face criticism and insults regarding her physical appearance and her body. With her music, she managed to talk about self-acceptance, diversity, body shaming, and sexuality.
From her lyrics emerges the power of acceptance; in fact, the singer has learned how to live with her body, which she loves, as all women, independently from the weight or the physical appearance, should do.
Her statements and her social media posts always cause a strong reaction, some people judge her and others who support her. A TikTok video of her, showing her home workout generated a huge stir: a shower of criticism and insults from the body shamers, who have been silenced by Lizzo, claiming to train for her ideal body, different from the one required by the social standards of beauty.
Furthermore, she is used to showing her body on social media with pride and without shame, demonstrating to all women that, to live in peace with their bodies, they should accept themselves and not chase a beauty standard, considered as a model only because of society.
Lizzo shows love to her body also on the red carpet, in fact, she has been a model for the “Future of Fashion’s” fashion show, wearing a plus-size dress.
Lizzo also fights for the black community’s rights in the US. After the brutal murder of the Afro-American George Floyd, she showed solidarity and admiration toward all the people who took a stand against the racism and the violation of the black community’s rights. Precisely to combat racism, she became the first big black woman on the cover of Vogue, in October 2020.
Additionally, since her debut, she’s always supported the LGBTQIA+ community. In fact, in the 2013 video clip of the song “Batches and Cookies” Lizzo waves the rainbow flag outside the Capitol in St Paul, Minnesota, to celebrate the approval of the law in favour of gay marriages.
For her social commitment, for her charisma, and her personal fights, besides, naturally, for her music, she has been nominated “Entertainer of the year”, in 2019 by Time magazine.
