The founders of miHoYo, the game development company behind Honkai Impact 3D and the recently popularized Genshin Impact, were attacked in their company’s headquarters.
The offender, armed with a knife, wanted to assassinate the company’s CEOs and founders: Cai Haoyu, Liu Wei, Luo Yuhao.
The attempt, which luckily was resolved in the best of ways, was published by an insider, Daniel Ahmad. There isn’t a lot of in-depth info yet, but Shanghai’s police referred in the 24th of april that they’ve found and arrested the suspect.
Despite Genshin Impact being more popular than Honkai Impact 3D, the man’s intentions were triggered by the latter. It was recently updated, adding new skins for the game’s characters that weren’t available in China. This made the chinese fans of the game so upset that the update was even cancelled. It appears that the update was the reason that the murder attempt happened, despite the fact that the lack of info make us don’t know if it was for the cancellation of the update or the new game mechanics.
About Genshin Impact, it’s going to be updated pretty soon to version 1.5, introducing new characters and events, hoping that it doesn’t create problems with its community, avoiding more drama.
