Loyality and love in “Follow you” song

“Follow you” is one of the two songs released on March 16th by the Imagine Dragons, the pop/alternative rock band that became famous in 2012 with the album Night Visions.
The song is about loyalty and love. Love is showed as an imperfect process, something that can be painful and needs a lot of patience. This kind of love means to love and accept someone without any expectations, helping the other person even in the darkest moments. We can see this, for example, in the words of the chorus:

“ll follow you way down wherever you may go,

I’ll follow you way down to your deepest low,
I’ll always be around wherever life takes you”.
As the singer, Dan Reynolds, explained with a post on Instagram when the song came out, the song is inspired by the love for his wife, Ana Volkman and, in particular, what happened in 2018 in their relationship. Indeed in that period they were going through a divorce and hadn’t talked to each other in 7 months. When Dan was driving to the lawyer’s office, to sign the divorce papers, he got a text from Aja where she said that she still loved him. They went to lunch as if it was their first date and then they got back together and remarried. The day after the text Dan wrote “follow you” to represent this imperfect but realistic love.
