Lucca Comics and Games

The aim of this report is to provide information about “Lucca Comics and Games”, an Italian festival that takes place in Lucca, a town in Tuscany, in the days between late October and early November. As the name implies, this festival is about comics, role-playing, board, card, video games, fantasy and science fiction imagery. Many tents are around the city, they are not united in a single space. Every tent is dedicated to a single and specific theme: Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, the Lord of the Rings, Marvel Universe… In every stand you can find many gadgets, dresses, books of your favourite movie, show, series. However, most of the tents are dedicated to anime and manga series or movies.  “Lucca Comics and Games” is considered the most important Italian festival of its kind, first in Europe and second in the world, after the Comiket in Tokyo. It is estimated that the total number of visitors of the festival is about 500,000 per year. Most of them are teenagers and young adults. Indeed, this festival is very popular among young people who are great fans of the fantasy world or love cosplaying. As a matter of fact, another of the main features of the festival is that people can exhibit the costumes they have made by themselves. In conclusion, this is an appealing event that brings together people with the same passions and that entertains them. In my opinion, a way to improve and make the festival even more successful is not to focus only on teen interests, but also on older people’s enjoyments.
